Sisterhood Report – Purim Edition
by Janet Erikson
I hope that headline caught your attention, because I don’t want anyone to miss it. I hope all CAI members and Sisterhood members are aware of the bee before it happens. Everyone welcome and no experience required. You walk into the kitchen wondering how to fold and stuff those triangular shaped cookies and you leave wiser as the head of some standing committee. Did I mention Sisterhood is baking Hamentashen for the Hebrew school children and the upcoming Purim party, on March 4th at 1 pm in the kitchen?
I have a friend in the community who reads her bulletin whenever she gets around to it….REALLY!?? Not me, I am not above camping out at the mail box when the first of the month rolls around. I especially like it when the first of the month is Shabbat, and Steven brings a few extra copies of the newest bulletin to services.
Myself, I read the whole bulletin immediately! Of course I forget a few salient details and have to go back often for verification. It is likely that I have misplaced the bulletin (and if I have a second copy from Steven, it will be AWOL too), so verification can often be a tedious and complicated process. Personally, I believe the bulletin takes night flights and is given to roaming my living room without leave. In fact there is a similar phenomenon happening in the kitchen. Lids for the precious take-out containers, the ones that are so graciously donated and always welcome, have joined the migration to destinations unknown. When these leaves are temporary, the inconvenience can be overlooked, but it is evident for some, the absence is permanent. Now I love a good mystery, but these containers come into the kitchen with matching lids and we send them out with lids tightly sealed, so how then does one explain the plethora of lids remaining in the stash that match nary a container. On further examination, one realises there is a multitude of lids and a dearth of containers. Compound mysteries. Where is Agatha Christie when you need a mystery solved? I took this issue up with Marsha, as I do with all things Sisterhood related, and she tells me this very same phenomenon is happening in her house. In fact it is now happening in her home in Arizona. WOW … a phenomenon that knows no boundaries and respects no borders!
I do have a report on the fundraising idea I presented in the previous issue. It has been an underwhelming success…evidently our community likes mom’s baking better. Oh well, there is no competing with a Jewish mother!
