Michal Hanuka is an Israeli film director, photographer & a visual artist.

For the past decade Michal has been working on TV shows, music videos, documentaries & feature films for domestic and international release. (Select clients: NBC, MTV, Sports Illustrated, renowned Israeli singer Harel Skaat, Channel 8 in Israel, The American JDC.)
In 2015 she released “Call For Help”, her first feature length documentary (with co-director Lior Etziony), set in Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in 2010. “Call for Help” provides a rare glimpse into the operations of a guerrilla style NGO in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. The documentary explores what makes volunteers cut loose from their lives and reach out to complete strangers while examining the tension between pure altruism and a helper’s high.
Recently Michal has finished developing an animated children show and a pilot for an actioncomedy series and began shooting two new documentaries in Israel. The first following a peace activist, fueled by bereavement after losing a family member in the war and the second examining how Israel became the Vegan capital of the world. Both exploring what it means to be Israeli, drawing an intricate map leading into the complex heart of the nation, made out of countless dichotomies.
For the past two years Michal has also been the resident documentary filmmaking teacher at Tom High School Givatayim, teaching students diagnosed with severe learning disabilities, grades 9th-12th, how to tell their story through film.
Michal has a B.A in Communications from New York University (NYU) & a Master’s Degree in Media Studies from The New School, NYC.
